Tire Tread Close UpIf you are working your way through the Canadian winter, there is an end in sight as warmer months are ahead, but for now, its important to remember a few helpful tips to keep your Buick Car in Thunder Bay running great!  At Dominion Motors, we want you to be happy in your Buick for years to come.  With a few easy steps, we can help you do just that.

The first tip involves tire maintenance.  When was the last time you had the treads checked out on your tires?  Poor tire treads can be a leading cause of losing traction and control on slick roads and can be easily avoided.  One easy tool to have on hand to check your tire treads with is a tire tread depth gauge.  With this simple tool, you can easily insert the pin on your gauge into the smallest groove on the tread of your tire all the way until the base of the gauge is flush with the tire itself.  Then with an easy reading, you can quickly see where the treads land on your tires.  Here are what those measurements mean:

  • 6/32″: Your tires are in good shape!
  • 5/32″: You may want to begin considering new tires.  A wet pavement may leave you feeling out of control.
  • 4/32″ to 3/32″: Driving on your current tires is a large risk to your safety at this point and you should be scheduling a replacement as soon as possible.
  • 2/32″: Your tires are no longer legally safe for the roadways and need to be replaced.

If you need to have a professional check your tires for you, or if you have already checked them and you are concerned about your safety, contact your local Dominion Motors Car Dealership in Thunder Bay and we will get you back on the road safely!  Stay connected for more on winter maintenance from Dominion Motors!
