It’s official! The 2014 GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 have the most power of any pickup engine and the most torque of any light duty pickup truck engine, when properly equipped! According to Jeff Luke, General Motors Executive Chief Engineer for full- and mid-size trucks, “Power and towing capacity are fundamental capabilities for full-size pickups. The 2014 Silverado and Sierra deliver unmatched power and towing capability with a host of ingenious driver aids.” To achieve this leading power rating, properly equipped 2014 GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 trucks need to feature a 6.2L V-8 engine producing an SAE-certified 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. Sierra SLT and Denali models also boast a class-leading maximum available trailering capacity of 5,443 kg (12000 pounds) when properly equipped with the 6.2L V-8!
When the 2014 models hit showroom floors this fall, the Sierra 1500 will additionally be available in two additional engine configurations. These configurations will include a 4.3L V-6 and 5.3L V-8. All three available engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing. Estimated fuel consumption for the 5.3L V-8 configuration stands at 8.7L/100km highway. This rating is the best of any V-8 pickup and even beats out Ford’s EcoBoost V-6.
Also look for the the new Max Trailering Package option! This feature is a trailering package with seven-pin and four-pin connector, enhanced cooling, automatic locking rear differential, heavy-duty 9.75-inch rear axle with 3.73 ratio, increased-capacity rear leaf springs, revised shock tuning for increased control, and integrated trailer brake controller.
