GMC Wins Top Safety Pick+ Award

SafetySafety in a midsize SUV has been at the forefront of many manufacturers plans and earning top safety ratings for this type of vehicle has been challenging over the years.  Recently, the IIHS released information regarding midsize SUVs and front crash tests.  These extensive tests have brought great news for GMC:

“SUVs have gotten much safer over the past few generations, but some are better than others at providing comprehensive front crash protection,” says David Zuby, IIHS executive vice president and chief research officer. “When it comes to midsize SUVs, General Motors is showing the way forward. The Equinox and Terrain score well in all components of the small overlap test — structure, restraints and kinematics, and injury measures for four body regions.”

Other brands were not so lucky.  Experts pointed out serious downsides of other SUVs, such as the Honda Pilot, the Mazda CX-9 the Kia Sorento and the Ford Explorer.  9 brands were evaluated overall and the fact that these two are the only ones to earn a good rating in this small overlap front crash test is a huge testament to their performance in safety.  Safety continues to be a huge factor for buyers today.  This new testing qualifies the Equinox and the Terrain for the highest award given by the IIHS, the Top Safety Pick+ award.

Why does this small overlap test matter?  According to the IIHS, it “replicates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object such as a tree or utility pole. In the test, 25 percent of a vehicle’s front end on the driver’s side strikes a rigid barrier at 40 mph.”

The Perfect Small SUV

The new GMC Terrain is a small SUV that seats five passengers and has a wonderful luxury feel without the luxury price.  With all wheel drive available and great fuel efficiency, this is the perfect SUV for you.

The interior is filled with classy high quality surfaces.  Heated front seats, Pioneer radio system and ambient lighting are some of the options available. A seven inch touch screen comes standard along with a review camera to make parking super easy.  The interior is also very roomy and feels much larger than a small to midsize SUV. There is also lots of cargo space in the back. The interior of the Terrain definitely sets it apart and a head of the competition.

The exterior of the GMC Terrain shows strong features like the muscular fender flares. It is a sharp looking SUV with an “athletic stance.” 17 inch aluminum wheels come standard with 18 and 19 inch available depending on model. Projector beam head lamps also come standard. Probably one of my favorite available features is the programmable power lift gate.  As a busy mom who usually has her hands full, this feature is awesome!

This is a GMC truck, so of course it comes with a powerful 3.6 liter V6 engine with 301 horsepower. It can do 0 to 60 in 6.7 seconds. Even with all wheel drive available, the Terrain still get great gas mileage at an estimated EPA of 29 highway. With a four wheel independent suspension, the Terrain has a smooth ride.  While this may be classified as a GMC truck, it feels like you’re driving a car.

So if you are looking for a midsize crossover that drives like a car but has the power and room of a large SUV, then the Terrain is probably the vehicle for you.  Talk to you Ontario GMC Trucks dealer today to see what this “luxury” crossover has to offer.
